Student Compliance & Complio Training

Guiding students through a complex, multi-step compliance process with just-in-time instruction and interactive walkthroughs

I designed a self-paced Rise course to guide pre-licensure students through required clinical compliance processes, including Complio access, drug and background screenings, FBI fingerprinting, and health insurance verification. I combined structured guidance, interactive content, embedded system walkthroughs, and supporting resources to help students understand both what they needed to complete and how to complete it.

Students previously received video-based training to guide them through the compliance process, but the format was difficult to follow and students continued to experience confusion when completing required tasks. This resulted in students reaching out to Enrollment Representatives for additional guidance.

The challenge was to create a clearer, more actionable learning experience that broke a complex process into manageable steps, supported students while they completed tasks in external systems, and made important requirements and resources easy to revisit when needed.

The Challenge

Create a Clear Path

Design Approach

I organized the compliance process into sequential lessons that moved students from foundational requirements and deadlines through each major task.

Show, Don't Just Tell

I paired procedural guidance with interactive Iorad walkthroughs so students could see how to complete tasks within the actual systems they needed to use.

Design for Different Paths

I separated instructions where requirements differed by program, campus, location, or completion method so students could focus on the guidance relevant to them.

Selected Learning Experiences

I transformed the existing video-based training into a structured, self-paced Rise course that guides students through each stage of the compliance process. The experience combines concise instructional content, interactive system walkthroughs, and point-of-need resources so students can move through required tasks while easily returning to guidance when needed.

Once students complete their screening order, the Complio dashboard becomes the central location for tracking progress and managing required documentation.

I used an interactive marker activity to orient students to key areas of the dashboard, allowing them to explore where to monitor compliance requirements, upload documentation, and locate materials needed for their screenings.

Providing Resources at the Point of Need

Making a Complex Process Easier to Navigate

Rather than asking students to remember where to find supporting information later, I embedded relevant resources directly into the learning experience at the point they were needed. Students can access job aids, FAQs, upload instructions, and external websites while completing each stage of the compliance process.

I also created an interactive checklist in Storyline to give students a clear view of required tasks and help them track their progress through the process.

Together, these resources make the training useful beyond initial completion by giving students practical support they can return to as they complete their requirements.

Since students complete several distinct compliance requirements across multiple systems, I organized the course around the sequence of tasks they need to complete rather than presenting the information as a collection of policies and instructions.

Each section guides students through one stage of the process, combining essential context with step-by-step guidance, demonstrations, and resources. This structure gives students a clear path through the requirements while still allowing them to return directly to a specific section when they need support later.

Helping Students Navigate Their Complio Dashboard

Guiding Students Through External Systems

Complex compliance requirements often require students to navigate unfamiliar external systems.

I worked closely with the original developer to support the initial build, then refined the tutorials by restructuring steps, revising instructional text and captions, rebuilding select screens, and improving the AI-generated narration for clarity and accuracy.

The redesigned training replaced a linear video with a structured, self-paced learning experience that students could navigate based on where they were in the compliance process. Interactive walkthroughs provided step-by-step support for complex tasks, while embedded resources, clear task guidance, and a final checklist gave students information they could return to as they completed their requirements.

The result was a more usable support resource designed to help students complete compliance tasks more independently and reduce reliance on Enrollment Representatives for procedural guidance.
