Project Overview

For this course project, I created the First Step Technology Toolkit, a website designed to support managers in the onboarding process of new hires. The objective of the toolkit was to curate a collection of tech tools across several categories—communication and collaboration, multimedia, virtual learning, games and simulations, and virtual reality—that could help managers streamline training, foster engagement, and ensure new hires feel supported and integrated from day one. The project required me to research and select tools that would be most beneficial for onboarding, providing detailed descriptions, usage instructions, and how each tool could address specific challenges in the onboarding process.

Throughout the project, I built out individual pages for each category, including a dedicated Additional Resources page. I also created tutorials for certain tools, ensuring that managers could easily understand how to implement them in their onboarding strategies. In the process, I focused on ensuring the toolkit was user-friendly and visually appealing, using clear, accessible language and organized layouts. This project allowed me to combine my interest in instructional design with my passion for improving workplace processes. It also gave me an opportunity to explore and evaluate emerging technologies that can make a meaningful difference in the onboarding experience.
